Firstly the VA load the transformer supports - this determines the capacity the transformer can accommodate so you need to ensure you will not be overloading your transformer with your lighting system. Secondly look to see whether it is waterproof or damp proof as this needs to co-align with your own desired uses/location for the transformer. Finally check whether it has built in dimming functions or whether it is compatible with dimming controls and dimmer switches if you will be requiring those in your lighting system.
